While he passed in May of 2013, the memory of Gywan remains fresh in our hearts. He was one of the hardest working players on the football team, and was killed suddenly in what appears to have been an attempted robbery.
Coach Mike Martin retired Gywan’s number at the end of the 2013 season, after the JCPAL team had won the championship in honor of Gywan.
He said, “As long as I’m coaching, we will never wear that jersey number again and we will continue to honor him. The emotions well up when I talk about him because it feels like it just happened yesterday. I don’t even have enough words to say how our team feels about losing him. But I will say this, we will never forget him.”
